CV of the speaker:

Dr Quan Du, Associate Professor and PI of School of Pharmaceutical Sciences, Peking University.

Mr. Du graduated from Wuhan University with a Bachelor degree in cell biology in 1990. He obtained his Ph.D. in molecular and cell biology from Peking Union Medical College (PUMC) in 1998. From 1999 to 2005, he worked as a postdoc and a visiting scientist at Karolinska Institute in Stockholm, and joined the faculty of the Institute of Molecular Medicine at Peking University in 2006. In the end of 2011, he transferred to School of Pharmaceutical Sciences in Peking University. Currently, his research interest includes basic and application research in siRNA and peptide, as well as finding and mechanism study of functional long non-coding RNA.

Abstract: Long non-coding RNA is a large class of RNA transcripts with sizes larger than 200 nucleotides and do not have protein-coding potential. These transcripts are involved in cell differentiation, development, as well as major human diseases including tumors. This lecture will start from the discussion on the development of molecular biology, and then move on to the investigation process of RNA transcripts and non-coding RNA gene. This lecture will in particularly, emphasis the importance of technology development to scientific research. Furthermore, this lecture will introduce our research interest and achievement on long non-coding RNA, research as well as application potential of the long non-coding study.
